College of the North Atlantic – Qatar has celebrated ‘World Environment Day’ by actively engaging in green initiatives and fostering a culture of environmental leadership among its staff, faculty and students.
The College President Dr. Salem Al-Naemi started the day by planting a ‘Sidra’ tree on Campus. This tree is the iconic symbol of Qatar’s heritage and represents learning, growth, perseverance and solidarity. Moreover, the College distributed 150 plants to its community across campus, encouraging all members to grow them at home and create a healthy indoor environment.
Furthermore, the Facilities Department at the College implements a Recyclable Waste Management Program in collaboration with many companies. Special colour-coded containers have been placed across the Campus to segregate and manage different kinds of waste such as: cans and foils, cardboard, glass, paper, plastic, metal, printer and toner cartridges etc.
Commenting on this day College of the North Atlantic – Qatar President Dr. Salem Al-Naemi said: ‘CNA-Q has always adopted green initiatives and ways to save the planet from further harm. This day is an opportunity to make impactful decisions. It is a time to think about how we can contribute to make this world a better place to live in. We need to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle and ensure a balance between economic growth and environmental protection as stated in the Environment Development Pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030.’
The College has also an Environmental Club that aims to advocate for a better environment. The club organized beach clean-ups in collaboration with the municipalities. It is also holding many virtual awareness events and will resume more initiatives once the Covid-19 restrictions are fully lifted.
