Dhawan to lead India on tour to Sri Lanka

Senior batsman Shikhar Dhawan was yesterday named captain of a second-string Indian side which includes a host of IPL performers for the limited-overs series in Sri Lanka next month.
India will play three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 matches in the island nation starting July 13 in Colombo. The Indian Test team led by Virat Kohli are in England to face New Zealand for the World Test Championship final between June 18-22 and then stay on for a five-Test series against the hosts.
Up and coming Indian Premier League talent including Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy have been named in the 20-member squad.
Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson have been picked as wicketkeepers. Dhawan, a left-handed opener, will be assisted by fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has been named vice-captain. The final two ODI matches will be played on July 16 and 18 followed by the three T20 games on July 21, 23, and 25.

India women’s stars to feature in English cricket’s Hundred
Five of India’s leading women’s internationals are to take part in the inaugural edition of English cricket’s new Hundred competition, officials announced. Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma will all play in the pioneering 100 balls per side tournament, which features eight franchises all fielding men’s and women’s teams.
Verma — the top-ranked batter in women’s Twenty20 internationals — replaces New Zealand’s Sophie Devine at Birmingham Phoenix. Devine, following the logistical problems created by the Covid-19 pandemic, has opted out of the competition in order prepare for international cricket, with the 50-over Women’s World Cup due to be held in New Zealand in February.
Kaur will play for Manchester Originals. And that means she is set to play in the very first match of the tournament, a standalone women’s fixture against the Oval Invincibles at Surrey’s headquarters on July 21. Meanwhile, Mandhana is set to form an opening partnership with England’s Danni Wyatt at Southern Brave, with Sharma joining England captain Heather Knight at London Spirit and Rodrigues representing Northern Superchargers.
