The Al Shamal Security Department has arrested a gang of four Asians after they tried to smuggle gold out of the country by turning it into powder. This was informed by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) through its Twitter handle on Monday.
The gang was busted on a tip-off received by the police. The arrest of the first accused was made after carrying out a search and investigation.
During interrogation, he confessed and informed about the rest of the accused who were caught with gold bars.
The tools and devices the gang used to convert gold into powder were also found in addition to financial invoices of the gold. The accused and the seized items were referred to the competent authorities to initiate the relevant procedures.
The competent authorities at the MoI have urged the public to co-operate with them by reporting such cases to the authorities if there is any suspicion, so as to reduce such crimes.
