* Joint initiative of MME and MoCI to cover auto workshops across all municipalities

A joint inspection campaign at automobile workshops across all municipalities in the country was launched on Sunday by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) in co-operation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI).
Lasting for a month, the campaign will be implemented on a large scale in all regions of the country to detect hygiene and building violations, in addition to violations involving the practice of commercial activities through the wrong use of spaces such as repairing vehicles outside the licensed shops, the MME has said in a statement.
The MME stressed that the campaign comes within the framework of its continuous efforts to preserve the aesthetic appearance of the country, reduce violations that distort the general appearance, and ensure compliance with the laws and regulations regulating commercial streets, especially workshop activities and car repair services.
On the first day, a team of inspectors launched an intensive campaign at car repair shops and workshops in Al Daayen Municipality. It resulted in the recording of 16 public cleanliness violations in accordance with Law No 18 of 2017 on public hygiene, as well as violations regarding the licence to practice commercial activities in line with Law No 5 of 2015.
Further, 35 violations of the public hygiene law were recorded in Umm Salal Municipality and a number of abandoned vehicles were also spotted there. In addition, 21 violations of the conditions specified for commercial licences were issued in the municipality.
The MME has called upon all shop owners and owners to abide by the regulations and laws pertaining to the practice of commercial activities and building permits in force. It has also advised the public to co-operate with it through the hotline, 184, in case of any enquiries or observations, and the necessary legal measures will be taken in this regard immediately.
The MME stressed that it is fully prepared to deal with public complaints, the statement added.
