Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) provided social, medical and awareness services to nearly 1.8mn beneficiaries in Qatar during 2020, with an overall budget of QR436,686,968.
On the international front, there were diverse relief and development projects for the benefit of more than 4.27mn people in 39 disaster- and conflict-affected countries, costing QR183,666,423 in total.
These figures were highlighted during an overview of the operational results of QRCS in 2020, provided on the occasion of Qatar Red Crescent Society's annual general meeting (AGM) yesterday.
The quorum was virtually achieved as stipulated by Law No 12/2004 concerning private societies and professional associations, and in conformity with the QRCS statute, according to a press statement.
Presided over by Sheikh Abdullah bin Thamer al-Thani, QRCS president, the online meeting was attended by QRCS secretary-general Ali bin Hassan al-Hammadi, board members and heads of departments.
Four representatives of the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA) as well as a representative of an external auditing firm, Talal Abu-Ghazaleh & Co International (TAGI), also participated in the meeting.
After the approval of agenda items, an overview was given about the operational results of QRCS in 2020.
The speakers were Faisal Mohamed al-Emadi, executive director of the Relief and International Development Division; Muna Fadel al-Sulaiti, executive director of the Volunteering and Local Development Division; Abdullah Sultan al-Qatan, executive director of the Medical Affairs Division; and Mohamed Rashid al-Marri, director of Communication and Public Relations.
As shown in the presentation, QRCS provided social, medical and awareness services for 1,791,621 beneficiaries in Qatar in 2020, with an overall budget of QR436,686,968.
The external auditor presented the audit report on QRCS's closing financial statements for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2020, which were found valid and generally conforming to the International Financial Reporting Standards, the statement noted.
Upon the recommendation of the external auditor, the AGM members endorsed the audited financial statements and discharged the Board of Directors from liability.
TAGI was retained as the external auditor for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2021.
