Qatar is witnessing a further increase in economic activity as a result of the government’s successful Covid-19 vaccination programme, an official of the Qatar-Indonesia Business Council (QIBC) has said.
QIBC president Farhan al-Sayed lauded the government’s “aggressive approach” to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country, as well as the wisdom of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, which “is leading Qatar to prosperity.”
Similarly, al-Sayed praised the recent opening of the new Qatar Vaccination Centre – for Business and Industry Sector, a new facility considered as one of the largest vaccination centres in the world.
Located near Asian Town in Mesaimeer, the facility covers over 300,000sqm and has more than 300 vaccination stations and 700 staff members, with the capacity to administer more than 25,000 doses a day.
“Qatar is absolutely on its way to herd immunity with an extensive and most advanced vaccination programme, which is also complementary to every person living in the country. This may also lead to a big possibility of schools and universities going back to normal schedule from September,” al-Sayed told Gulf Times yesterday.
Al-Sayed said, “The immunisation programme and the prompt action by the health authorities has sprung many businesses back to action. Also a big drop in daily Covid-19 cases encouraged health authorities to open up the markets and reduce a number of restrictions. Also, allowing the children to start going to the malls had encouraged a big turn-out in the number of families in commercial establishments, subsequently increasing sales in almost every sector.
“Domestic tourism will be on the rise as still a big number of locals and residents feel safer living in Qatar than travelling abroad this summer, considering the new Delta variant is on the rise in many countries. Consumer confidence is up due to fewer restrictions around.
Al-Sayed also said Qatar has the added advantage of being on the European Union’s safe travel list.
“Welcoming GCC vaccinated nationals and residents to visit Qatar this summer will help the hotels and the hospitality industry in the coming period. Also, with all the hotels getting ‘Qatar Clean-certified’ will make the tourist and visitors very comfortable visiting Qatar,” he added.
