The Embassy of the Republic of Haiti to Qatar, has issued the following statement following the assassination of Haitian president Jovenel Moïse on Wednesday."It is with profound sorrow that the Embassy of the Republic of Haiti to the State of Qatar informs its citizens and the public at large, that on the night of Tuesday July 6 to Wednesday July 7, 2021, at approximately one o'clock in the morning in Haiti, HE M Jovenel Moise, President of the Republic of Haiti, was fatally wounded within his private residence by a commando of foreign mercenaries. His wife, Martine Moise, who also fell victim to the gunshots was able to receive first responder care and was flown to Miami yesterday (July 7), for further urgent care."The Embassy of the Republic of Haiti to the State of Qatar, in echoing the statement made by the interim Prime Minister Dr Claude Joseph on July 7, condemns such a "heinous, inhumane and barbaric act". As we mourn the loss of our President, the interim Prime Minister ensures that together with members of government and the Security Council of the National Police (CSPN), "all measures have been taken in order to ensure the continuity of the State and to protect the Nation". "In fact, last night the Director General of the National Haitian Police confirmed the killing of four members of the armed commando and the arrest of two. The Embassy of the Republic of Haiti to the State of Qatar extends its gratitude towards all those who have expressed their sentiments of sympathy and support in these trying times. A subsequent note will be sent with information on the opening of a book of condolences.“Democracy and the Republic will prevail.”
