The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said Monday that one million internally displaced people (IDPs) in Gaza face the risk of death due to the winter cold, as the genocidal war continues. The UN agency said in a post on 'X' that the IDPS in Gaza need protection from the rain and cold, and only about 23% of their needs have been met." It said that 945,000 Palestinians in the Strip are at risk of severe cold this winter, adding that there is an urgent need for aid to meet the enormous needs as the crisis worsens.UNRWA reiterated its emphasis on "the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza." Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have continued their aggression on the Gaza Strip, by land, sea and air, which has so far resulted in the death of at least 44,758 people in more than 14 months of war between Israel and Palestinian fighters.According to the Gaza health ministry, 106,134 people have been wounded in the Gaza Strip since the war began on October 7, 2023.A report from Washington said US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will travel to Israel this week for talks on Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad, and on a truce deal in Gaza. The White House said Sullivan will meet Israeli officials to discuss "efforts to reach a hostage release and ceasefire deal in Gaza, the latest developments in Syria, and for discussions about Lebanon and Iran," National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett said.
