The General Cleanliness Department has carried out regular clean-up campaigns at Al Safliya, Ishat and Shra’wa islands as part of a programme adopted by the department for the maintenance and upkeep of the islands in order to enable them to receive visitors.
Sixteen workers, inspectors, officers and supervisers have taken part in the campaigns using two boats, and around 7 tonnes of waste were removed in the process, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment said. This included 4 tonnes from Ishat, 2 tonnes from Shra’wa and 1 tonne from Al Safliya Island.
