The various emergency departments at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) received 1,065 cases on the first day of Eid al-Adha, including 362 at the trauma emergency department at Hamad General Hospital.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the HMC paediatric departments received 703 cases. Dr Abdelnasser al-Jazaeri, senior consultant at Hamad General Hospital emergency department, said that 68 cases were received through the ambulance services including five cases due to road traffic accidents. All the cases were with minor or moderate injuries and discharged the same day after treatment.
A total of 16 cases of indigestion and complications mostly due to overeating meat, and sweets during the holidays, were received as well. One of these cases had to be admitted at the Intensive Care Unit to monitor the patient's health, while the other cases were of moderate nature.

"The number of cases received at the emergency department this Eid is almost 20% less than the same season last year," Dr al-Jazaeri added.
Meanwhile, Dr Mohamed al-Amri, director of Paediatric Emergency Department at HMC, explained that 703 children's emergency cases received on the first day of Eid included 369 at Al Sadd Paediatric Emergency Center (PEC), 206 at Al Gharrafa Al Rayyan, 48 at Al Daayen, and 80 at the Old Airport PEC.
Meanwhile, Dr Mohamed al-Amri, director of Paediatric Emergency Department at HMC, explained that 703 children's emergency cases received on the first day of Eid included 369 at Al Sadd Paediatric Emergency Center (PEC), 206 at Al Gharrafa Al Rayyan, 48 at Al Daayen, and 80 at the Old Airport PEC.
"These figures are almost 40% less than the number of cases received during normal days before the Eid holidays," added Dr al-Amri.
