The Institution of Engineers (India) Qatar Chapter recently conducted a technical webinar session on ‘Engineering Innovations for Highways and Airports’ and was attended by some 150 plus engineers via the Zoom online portal.
The event’s chief guest was engineer Abdulla M al-Baker, vice president of Lean Construction Institute (LCI) Qatar, who explained the traditional construction methods and latest innovative methodology in the field of construction. Al-Baker also lauded the activities of IEI Qatar Chapter, in partnership with LCI Qatar.
Dr Vijay Joshi, the recipient of Australia’s highest civilian award, ‘Order of Australia Medal’ (OAM), was the keynote speaker. He explained the topic ‘Engineering Innovations for Highways and Airports’ and highlighted the principles of highway designs, various pavement loads, slag, and the use of alternative materials, which was considered as waste.
He also discussed that engineering properties are equally or better than natural materials and explained innovative ideas for the use of the cementitious property of slag, as well. Engineer Ahmed Jassim al-Jolo, former president of the Arab Engineers Forum, was the guest of honour.
Engineer Abdul Sathar, chairman of IEI Qatar Chapter, welcomed the gathering and introduced the guest speakers. He also announced the upcoming programmes of IEI Qatar Chapter and congratulated all the engineers on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of IEI Qatar Chapter this month. Engineer Anand Nadgir, executive committee member & president of Maharashtra Professional Forum, delivered the vote of thanks.
Since its inception, IEI Qatar Chapter has been rendering excellent professional services to the engineering community of Qatar consistent with the objectives of the institution for the last 30 years.
One of the major activities is the conduct of regular technical seminars and workshops for the member engineers in Qatar. It also promotes general advancement in engineering and technology and provides a platform for technical interaction for continuous professional development of the engineering community of Qatar.
