Concacaf chief praises Qatar’s Gold Cup debut

Qatar Football Association (QFA) President HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani met Concacaf chief Victor Montagliani during the final of Gold Cup, which United States won on Sunday after a 1-0 win over Mexico at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The meeting discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen and further develop them. They also discussed mutual interest matters and agreed to promote co-operation further to develop football ties between Qatar and Concacaf member nations.
The meeting was also attended by Secretary-General at Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy Hassan al-Thawadi, QFA’s Executive Director of the Strategic and Institutional Planning Office Mushtaq al-Waili and QFA Secretary-General Mansoor al-Ansari,
“This year, we’ve hosted the Asian Champions, Qatar, at the Gold Cup. They have made a tremendous contribution to the tournament, not only on the pitch but also off the pitch. On the pitch, they’ve been fighters and played top-class football. Off the pitch, they’ve been a great ambassador to their country, region, and the continent of Asia. I thank them for that and for being class and for their friendship,” said Montagliani.
In September 2020, QFA and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) formed a new strategic partnership with Concacaf, the governing body for football in North America, Central America and the Caribbean. The partnership sees the QFA and the SC play a vital role in all levels of football and sport across the Concacaf region and help deliver long-term football for development programmes across the region.
Firstly, the partnership includes Qatar’s participation as a guest nation in the region’s top football competition, the Concacaf Gold Cup, in 2021 and 2023.
