MoU signed for Qatar cash aid distribution to Gaza families

HE Chairman of Qatar's Gaza Reconstruction Committee Ambassador Mohamed al- Emadi, on signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland.HE al-Emadi said that the memorandum of understanding includes the mechanism for distributing the cash aid grant provided by Qatar to needy families in Gaza Strip.He explained that the cash assistance to beneficiaries will be disbursed through the United Nations and through its World Food Programme, where about 100,000 needy families in the governorates of the Gaza Strip will receive this aid per month, at the rate of $100 per family in cash.HE Ambassador Mohamed al-Emadi indicated that the Qatari committee will transfer the aid funds before the end of this month, and that its distribution will start during the month of September.Qatari support is seen as a crucial lifeline for impoverished Palestinians living in the Israeli-blockaded enclave.Most of Gaza's roughly two million people rely on some form of humanitarian aid.Israel has maintained a tight blockade on the territory since 2007, the year Hamas took power.
