Qatar University (QU) successfully graduates first batch of College of Medicine (CMED) member of QU-Health. Total number of graduates (46) in which 17 were Qatari students. Currently 500 students are enrolled in CMED.

QU successfully graduated first batch of College of Medicine. The College of Medicine (CMED) at Qatar University (QU) was founded in October 2014, following an Emiri Directive and a thorough feasibility study as a joint initiative by Qatar University and Hamad Medical Corporation. It admitted the first cohort of students in fall 2015.
CMED plays an integral part of Qatar University’s Health Cluster (QU Health), where synergistic interprofessional and interdisciplinary efforts of all cluster members come together in the areas of teaching, research, and community outreach; therefore, helping advance knowledge in the field, addressing local and regional challenges, and contributing to population health aligned with the future needs of Qatar.
The College of Medicine aims to make contributions to medical education, patient care, medical research and community outreach and is fully aligned with Qatar’s national strategies in Education and Health, as well as Qatar University’s strategic plan.
On the occasion of graduation, Dr. Egon Toft, Dean of College of Medicine said, “Today, the dream of graduating the first batch of the first national medical college in Qatar has been fulfilled. Since the opening of the college in 2016, we have been striving to achieve our goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 to graduate qualified doctors for the renaissance of the country.”
“Doctors, congratulations on this great achievement. You have put yourselves in the front lines to face challenges and achieve achievements in the field of health and medicine for the advancement of the nation. It is our hope you will take care of yourself to improve the society and the life of your future patients,” Dr. Egon added.
Dr. Hamda Ahmad H A Al-Thawadi, Assistant Professor of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine said, “I congratulate our dear students on their success and graduation from the College of Medicine. We are proud of you and confident that your ambitions will continue to grow and develop the health sector in the State of Qatar. I also congratulate my fellow professors for this achievement in graduating the first batch of doctors from the College of Medicine at Qatar University. This achievement is the culmination of efforts that continued for years until reaching this precious moment.”
“In the medical and healthcare profession one need to work diligently and efficiently, utilizes his/her time wisely, looks after own body and soul, respect his/her teamwork members, and considers his/her patients’ needs and wellbeing a priority,” said Prof. Marwan Farouk Abu-Hijleh Department Head of Basic Medical Science, College of Medicine.
Dr. Susu Zughaier, Associate Professor of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine said, “When I met the first CMED class, they were only second year students and I wondered then “how would they progress?”. By teaching them microbiology and involving them in medical research, they exceeded all expectations and excelled. Our graduates are well rounded doctors and researchers who make us very proud.”
“By going through the three phases of development at CMED, you are fully matured to step out and be angels of hope with stethoscopes,” said Dr. Mubarak Ariyo Bidmos, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, College of Medicine.
On graduation ceremony students shared their sentiments of successfully graduating from Qatar University. Dr. Fatima Saoud Al-Mohannadi, A graduate said on this occasion, “The College of Medicine offered me a supportive educational environment and a positive atmosphere that has allowed me to become the self-directed learner, the active researcher and the clinically skilled doctor that I believe I am today. It is an honor to be a member of the first batch that were taught and trained by both the first National Medical College as well as the national hospital.”
Graduate of CMED, Dr. Khaled Wagdi Sadek said “I became a doctor. Very hard it was, yet most satisfying.”
Dr. Maha Mohamed Hussein, Graduate of CMED said, “In the journey of seeking knowledge, I learned not to stop striving, be patient, and think your best of God.”
Dr. Mohamed Badie Mahmoud, Graduate of CMED said, “Being part of the first batch is a huge honor and responsibility at the same time.”
Dr. Mohammad Abdullah D Balideh, Graduate of First batch said, “I have chosen community medicine residency program because I am interested in Health promotion, disease prevention, and research.”
