HE the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lolwah bint Rashid AlKhater has visited Afghan evacuees in Qatar.
Replying to a tweet by Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai expressing gratitude to the Qatar government, HE AlKhater said that she was happy to speak with Malala about the plans to help the people of Afghanistan, as well as meet them after they arrived in Qatar.
"Thank you dear Malala, I was happy when we spoke to plan how we can help our brothers & sisters in Afghanistan, even happier when they arrived in Qatar, and I was deeply grateful to meet them this afternoon," HE AlKhater tweeted yesterday.
"They all said hello and spoke very highly of you," she added.
Earlier, Malala had tweeted, saying: "Grateful to see the government of Qatar helping so many people – students, women's rights advocates, journalists and more – safely evacuate Afghanistan.
“I hope more countries will accelerate their efforts and support #AfghanRefugees."
As reported yesterday, Qatar has been working continuously with its international partners to evacuate Afghan civilians, citizens of friendly countries and journalists from Afghan territory, by providing safe passage to reach the airport and transferring them to Doha through special flights organised by Qatar.
In a speech delivered by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar at the United Nations Office in Geneva, ambassador Ali Khalfan al-Mansouri, before the 31st special session of the Human Rights Council to address the serious human rights concerns and situation in Afghanistan, affirmed Qatar’s commitment and determination to move forward in its efforts to achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The Government Communications Office (GCO) had stressed in a tweet that Qatar is committed to tackling humanitarian issues, offering housing and healthcare to evacuees from Afghanistan residing in the country temporarily.
“It has facilitated the safe passage of Afghan civilians, journalists, diplomats and international officials.”
The tweet was accompanied by a video highlighting the housing facilities provided to such evacuees.
