Amidst a large turnout of male and female candidates, the Candidates Committee for the Shura Council elections concluded accepting nominations on Thursday.
The preliminary list of candidates will be announced on August 30 at the headquarters of the committee. Submitting grievances and objections will start on August 31 and continue until September 2 with the final lists to be announced on September 15.
While talking to local Arabic daily Arrayah, a number of Qataris expressed their enthusiasm to participate in the electoral process and confidence in the success of the first ever elections to the Shura Council.
They urged the voters to monitor the electoral process in order to send the best representatives to the council, members with competence, good reputation, experience and ability to serve the country.
They praised the preparations of the Candidates Committee to receive nominations and for giving opportunity for those in quarantine to file their nominations by transporting them in ambulances, in co-ordination with the Ministry of Public Health.
"This reflects the committee’s keenness to expand the base of participation while ensuring integrity and transparency," a citizen said. Yesterday, a Qatari undergoing quarantine upon return from travel abroad was brought to the committee’s headquarters in an ambulance for filing his nomination while abiding with all precautionary measures.
Officials in charge of the nomination committee received the citizen in the parking area of the committee’s headquarters and verified his personal data. Subsequently, he filled the candidacy form and the data was entered into the electronic system for nomination. The procedures were completed within 15 minutes.
A number of Qatari women have submitted their applications as the related laws and regulations have given them equal rights in this regard. Qataris expect that the Shura Council elections will be a unique experience, the daily added.
