Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities organised on Sunday the first edition of 'Shafallah Bridging Nations: Weaving Connections Through Art', in cooperation with the Bridging Nations Foundation and the French Academic Society of Arts, Sciences and Literature in Paris and in coordination with the Embassy of the French Republic in Qatar. It was attended by HE the Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, and HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie. In a statement Sunday, the center stated that the event is within the framework of the commitment to promoting social inclusion through art, indicating that this initiative is not just an artistic event, but rather a call to strengthen cultural ties and contribute to enhancing the values of cooperation through arts, which represent an important part of Qatar National Vision 2030 and plays a major role in empowering people with disabilities by providing opportunities for creative expression and cultural participation. The center added that this initiative aims to enhance understanding between cultures through arts; as it works to achieve several goals; including providing a unique artistic program that celebrates artists with disabilities, in addition to enhancing integration between an accredited artist and a talented young person.Artists will collaborate to create paintings that reflect the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, in an inspiring and interactive environment, it added. The Shafallah Center's media spokesperson Aida Omar Al Shirawi said that the initiative's activities are held over five days, with the first day witnessing the opening ceremony and the selection of teams through a draw. One of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was selected to be the subject of each team's artwork, she said, adding that this day is an opportunity for artists to communicate and build a cooperative relationship between them, followed by three days of intensive work, while the closing ceremony will be held on the final day and the winning teams will be announced and honored.Al Shirawi added that workshops will be organized bringing together 17 creative teams of professional artists and individuals with disabilities, with each team introducing a young disabled individual, alongside a professional artist to compete in the first three places. She said that the initiative features 17 disabled artists, including 11 from Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities, 4 from Best Buddies Qatar, and 2 from Al-Noor Center for the Blind, thus representing a wide diversity of abilities and talents, in collaboration with Qatar-based professional artists, including those from Matafi Artists' Residence alongside other artists statewide.
