Carrefour has launched a fundraising campaign in collaboration with Education Above All (EAA), to recognise the importance of raising awareness about protecting everyone’s right to education. The campaign was launched to support vulnerable children and students globally in recognition of the second International Day to Protect Education from Attack. The fundraising campaign helped raise all-important funds which were donated to the EAA Foundation’s #UniteToProtect project. Customers in Qatar were encouraged to donate to the campaign whenever they would visit any one of Carrefour’s stores across the country. Carrefour matched the amount donated by customers on the 9th of September, which is the International Day to Protect Education from Attack. The launch of the fundraising initiative followed a two-week back-to-school campaign, in which Carrefour partnered with Unilever as the company donated 1 QAR to EAA, each time a customer bought a Lux, Lifebuoy, Omo, Knorr or Hellman’s mayonnaise from Carrefour. Customers were also given the opportunity to be eligible for a free entry coupon to receive one of 150 exciting gifts every time a customer donates 10 QAR or more. An ongoing charity initiative that is in collaboration with the EAA involves small donation boxes through which customers can collect donations and return the boxes to the EAA Headquarters by 30 November. All these initiatives follow Carrefour’s vision of elevating the growth and prosperity of communities by supporting them through access to quality education. Laurent Hausknecht, Country Manager of Carrefour Qatar, said: “Carrefour is highly committed to bringing hope to the youth by giving them access to quality education. We are strong supporters of education and believe it is one of the main pillars that help develop the community. Our long standing partnership with Education Above All is a testament to this commitment. By joining forces, we can go the extra mile to provide all-important support to those that need it most, equipping the youth with the necessary resources to lead full, and independent lives. We aim to build on this initiative so that together we can create great moments for children in need of support.”Mubarak Al Thani, Communication Manager and Head of Advocacy at EAA Foundation, said: "The Education Above All Foundation is proud to work alongside partners like Carrefour Qatar, who support our vision of bringing hope and real opportunities to the lives of impoverished and marginalised children, youth and women — especially in the developing world and areas of conflict and natural disasters. The #UniteToProtect campaign will encourage the public to do more in order to protect the education of children and learners in the most vulnerable communities. The campaign aims to create a strong ethos built on global justice and awareness of attacks on education and efforts being put in place to stop them.” The International Day to Protect Education from Attack was initiated by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser and was adopted by the United Nations in 2020. This day is considered extremely crucial to raise awareness about the challenges faced by over 75 million youths that are between the age of 3 to 18, who are living in 35 crisis-affected countries, and are facing a lack of educational support.
