The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the General Cleanliness and Public Relations departments, marked World Cleanup Day 2021, which falls on the third Saturday of September every year.
To mark the occasion, the ministry organised a variety of events and activities with the aim of enhancing the value and importance of hygiene among members of society and encouraging them to contribute to reducing pollution and preserving the environment.
The activities included holding a mini-awareness exhibition at Doha Festival City for five days to raise awareness of the hygiene law and the most important violations and penalties it contains. This was done with the aim of urging the public to avoid negative practices and highlighting the efforts made by the MME and facilities provided to the public throughout the country, in addition to the most important services provided in all areas of cleanliness, as well as the services provided by the General Cleanliness Department via the ministry's website.
Within the framework of the MME's keenness on community partnership, there has been co-ordination with a number of authorities in the country to activate the laws on public hygiene by displaying awareness videos and phrases through their social media platforms, in addition to co-operating with the Qatari Centre of Social Cultural for the Deaf by translating a video of the Public Hygiene Law into sign language and raising awareness for people with hearing disabilities.
Co-ordination was also maintained to carry out a number of cleaning campaigns in co-operation with the Beaches and Islands Section, covering Bin Ghannam Island, Freiha Beach and along roads in the Umm Bab and Abu Samra regions.
The MME also honoured 50 cleaners in appreciation of their efforts and their fieldwork that is appreciated by all.
