The Ministry of Culture and Sports, in cooperation and partnership with the Social Development Center (NAMA), launched training workshops for the Life Skills Program, through videoconferencing, with the participation of 32 young male and female from eight Gulf and Arab countries.

The program, which will run until Sep. 30, aims to link the needs of young people and life situations with the needs of society, which helps them manage their life in a flexible and effective way, and rely on themselves.

It also aims at helping young people to positively adapt to their environment, keep pace with changes, face pressures, and provide them with the opportunity to live better, especially in a society characterized by the rapid explosion of knowledge, information and technology, and the increasing knowledge economy, as young people need those skills that are based on information technology and the need to competitive operational capabilities.

The program seeks to provide youths with direct experiences through direct dealing with people and life phenomena, which gives them the ability to combine what they learn and study and what they encounter during interaction with the surrounding reality. It also provides them with modern means for obtaining information and knowledge by their own from approved sources, and makes them feel the problems that the society is facing with the desire to solve them, as well as cooperate with those around them by communicating with them and expressing opinions and ideas correctly. In addition, the program enables youths to relate to the global community, learn about global issues and gain information and knowledge about peoples' lives.

Director of the Department of Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Culture and Sports Maha Al Rumaih said that the implementation of the Life Skills Program for the representatives of the GCC countries, and the continuation of organizing these joint events, comes to enhance and develop the existing and joint cooperation between all GCC countries, Jordan and Morocco in the field of youth.

Despite the exceptional circumstances the world is going through, "we are still keen on communication between our youth and to achieve the measures taken by countries to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic."

She added that organizing this program is of great importance for young people, as it focuses on the skills that each young person needs to interact with his surroundings in a positive way.

For her part, Director of the Community Services Department at Nama Moza Al Kuwari affirmed that the launch of life skills workshops in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports aims to exchange experiences in the field of youth empowerment.

She pointed out that the importance of the workshops lies in linking the needs of young people and life situations with the needs of society, in addition to giving the youths the opportunity to live better, providing them with direct experiences through direct dealing with people and life phenomena, and providing them with modern means for obtaining information and knowledge by their own from approved sources.

Life skills are defined as the behaviors used appropriately and responsibly in the management of personal and professional affairs. They are also set of human skills acquired via learning or direct experience that are used to handle problems and questions commonly encountered in day to-day personal and professional life.

The program aims to qualitatively develop and invest the energies of youth, stimulate their ambitions and aspirations, and develop their capabilities through a group of carefully selected programs to create an empowered and enlightened generation that possesses enormous capabilities for initiative, creativity, leadership and interaction with community issues and needs, and implements social entrepreneurship projects.
