Qatar University (QU) honoured distinguished faculty, staff and alumni at its annual convocation for academic year 2021. President Dr Hassan al-Derham, welcomed the gathering and gave away awards in the academic, administrative and community service fields.
He was assisted by Academic Affairs vice-president Dr Omar al-Ansari in presenting the awards. The Academic Excellence Award was won by Prof Ahmed Abdel-Fattah Mohamed El-Zahry, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
The Teaching Excellence Award went to Dr Yasser Yassin Sayed Ahmed Fadl, associate professor of management at the College of Business and Economics.
The Excellence in Community Service Award was won by Prof Abdul Majeed Salem Mohamed Hammouda, assistant dean for Academic Affairs at the College of Engineering.
QU president along with Administrative and Financial Affairs vice-president Dr Khaled al-Khater presented the prizes for the winners of the annual Distinguished Administrative Employee Award.
Supervisory category awardees are: Abdullah Hamad al-Nuaimi, Aisha Mubarak al-Qahtani, Basil Yahya Mismar, Nada Asad al-Emadi, Manal Abdul-Salam Qassem. Basma Mohamed Misbah and Sheikha Ali Rafan were awarded in the Technical Administrative Category.
In the Supporting Administrative category, Adel Mohamed Mahmoud, Reem Mohsen al-Athba, Idris Lal al-Maliki, Ohoud Taher Alawi, Raja Mahmoud al-Jazaery, Nizar Ahmed Safi were awarded. In the Academic Support category, Maryam Abdullah al-Thani and Zadjeeh Zahi were awarded.
In the Distinguished Worker category, Muawiyah Ahmed and Faisal Kalari Connell were honoured. The president also presented the Distinguished Graduate Award along with the Department of Development and Partnerships director Prof Mohamed al-Mohannadi to Faisal Mohamed al-Kooheji.
Communication and Public Relations director Kummam al-Maadeed presented the Distinguished Media Contribution Award to Dr Ali Bakir from the Ibn Khaldun Centre for Social and Human Sciences.
