Qatar University’s (QU) will host the first-ever National 3MT (three-minute thesis) Competition in Qatar on October 9, from 9am to 10.30am.
At the National 3MT Competition, finalists will have three minutes to present the significance of their thesis research to a general audience. QU has successfully conducted the 3MT event at the university level over the past four years, and this time, the university is bringing the competition to the national stage.
All higher education institutions offering thesis-based graduate programmes were invited to participate, and the following universities will be represented at the 2021 National 3MT finals: Qatar University (host and organiser), Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Al Rayyan International University College, Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar, Texas A&M University at Qatar, and University of Calgary in Qatar.
The 2021 National 3MT Competition is sponsored by ConocoPhillips Qatar.
This year’s competition is a hybrid event with presentations and judging taking place at QU’s College of Education building in front of delegates representing the participating universities. The larger general audience will be attending via WebEx.
The national competition celebrates the growth and diversity in graduate education in Qatar in addition to highlighting the impactful research of some of the country’s brightest graduate students. "The National 3MT Competition is an excellent opportunity to facilitate and strengthen collaboration among universities. This is also a way to encourage prospective graduate students to pursue one of the many unique opportunities for graduate study available right here in Qatar," QU said in a statement.
The event will include special addresses by Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh bin Khalifa al-Naimi, undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), as well as Qatar University president Dr Hassan al-Derham.
