QU celebrates success of Summer Research Internship Programme

The Research and Graduate Studies Sector at Qatar University (QU) organised a certificate-distribution ceremony to mark the success of the Summer Research Internship Programme-2021.
The ceremony was held online on September 28. Dr Nasser Abdullah Alnuaimi, associate vice-president for Research and Graduate Studies, the directors of research centres, faculty members, researchers and participating students attended this event.Ten research centres of QU conducted the programme from June 7 to July 1: Centre for Advanced Materials (CAM), Environmental Science Centre (ESC), Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), Laboratory Animal Research Centre (LARC), Central Laboratories Unit (CLU), Qatar University Young Scientists Centre (YSC), Social & Economic Survey Research Institute (Sesri), Ibn Khaldoon Centre (IKC), National Education Development Centre (NEDC) and Gas Processing Centre (GPC).This internship programme was organised for graduate and undergraduate students of Qatar University, students from the Academic Network for Development Dialogue (ANDD) member universities, and employees of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment. The directors, technical managers and staff of the respective centres "took a keen interest in making this programme a great success", QU said in a statement.As part of the preventive measures followed by QU to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the Summer Research Internship was conducted online. A total of 28 specific research-related topics were covered during the internship, and around 250 participants from different colleges actively participated in the summer research internship.The Office of VP-RGS plans to conduct such a programme every summer to promote the research culture among undergraduate and graduate students and encourage their research activities, the statement notes.During the ceremony, a report on the summer internship was presented by Dr Abdelbary Elhissi, director of Research Planning and Development. He congratulated the participants for grabbing this opportunity to gain research-related knowledge. One QU student and one ANDD student presented their internship experience.Dr Elhissi said, “This programme is an important part of QU's transformative and human resources capacity-building strategy and commitments towards national research priority."Dr Alnuaimi thanked all those who participated in this internship programme and said, “The programme allows the students to promote their skills in scientific research, support their theoretical knowledge with practical training in their specialisation, and pave the way towards a successful future career.“This year, I am happy to note the participation of international students from member institutions of the Academic Network for Development Dialogue. This co-operative initiative brings together many regional and international academic institutions, with the support of the United Nations, ESCWA and Qatar University. The ANDD aims to advance the process of sustainable development in the region. In addition, I would like to thank all participants from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment. We wish to have more participants from national and international entities."
