Batukamma, a cultural symbol of the southern Indian state of Telangana, was organised as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative to mark the 75th Independence of India.
President of Telangana Jagruthi Qatar Nandini Abbagouni said the chief guest of the event was Dr Alpana Mittal, wife of Indian ambassador to Qatar Dr Deepak Mittal, and Padma Karri, second secretary, Indian embassy.
Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) president P N Baburajan, vice-president Subramanya Hebbagelu, general secretary K Krishna Kumar and ICC Advisory Council chairman K S Prasad, as well as Indian Community Benevolent Forum president Ziad Usman and vice-president Vinod Nair were the special guests.
Women and girls were dressed for the occasion to reflect the Indian culture and performed Bathukamma with "amazing spirit and enthusiasm", a press statement noted.
On this occasion, the craftsmanship of Telangana handlooms was displayed with a saree in a match box and a ring sari specially brought from Sircilla with the objective of promoting handlooms and supporting artisans.
Oggu Katha, a dying artform from Telangana, was performed in a "first-of-its-kind" rendition outside India, the statement added.
The special attraction of the programme was the Batukamma song composed by famous Indian music director A R Rahman for Telangana Jagruthi.
