Some 598 tonnes of local vegetables were sold through the Qatar Farms and Premium Qatari Vegetables programmes in September, marking a 11% increase year on year.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) informed this through a post on social media on Sunday.
Of the total, 305 tonnes were sold through the Qatar’s Farms programme while 293 tonnes were marketed through the Premium Qatari Vegetables initiative, the MME said.
Products sold through the two programmes are available in major consumer complexes in Qatar, such as LuLu Hypermarket, Carrefour, Al Meera, Family Food Centre and others.
The MME has adopted the two programmes to market Qatari vegetables in order to provide an opportunity to Qatari farmers to display their local production of high-quality vegetables in consumer complexes at reasonable prices for customers without any intermediary, and without the farmer having to pay any financial commissions for the same.
