The Government Communications Office (GCO) has stressed that Qatar is supporting efforts to end poverty across the world by educating millions, building vital infrastructure and providing vital humanitarian assistance.
This came in a statement by the GCO on social media highlighting "Qatar's efforts in the fight against poverty".
"The State of Qatar is proud to be part of the global efforts to eradicate poverty across the world. Qatar is an avid supporter of various
UN agencies that lead these efforts to end poverty," the GCO tweeted.
In the field of education, the GCO said Education Above All (EAA) and Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) partnered in 2012 with United Nations agencies to pledge more than $92mn towards education for the hardest-to-reach children and those affected by the Syrian crisis.
In terms of infrastructure, QFFD recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Lebanese Ministry of Education, in cooperation with EAA and Unesco, to repair 55 schools, 20 technical and vocational education and training centres, and three universities in Beirut.
As for humanitarian assistance, QFFD globally dispersed over $121mn for education, $29mn for economic development and $101mn for healthcare in 2020, the GCO added.
