The Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association Qatar (AMUAAQ), an associate organisation of the Indian Community Benevolent Forum, on October 17 celebrated the 204th birth anniversary of the university founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
As advised by AMUAAQ president Jawed Ahmad, the alumni in Qatar held a small gathering, adhering to Covid-19 protocols.
Dr Nadeem Jilani, Mamnoon Ahmad Bangash, Amanuddin Ashraf, Mohamed Naim, Mohamed Faisal Naseem, Mohamed Farman Khan, Farrukh Farooqui, Dr Ashna Nusrat, Mohamed Nayeem, Dr Zainab Mallick, Waheeduzzaman Khan and Kapil attended the event while Ahmad presided. General secretary Farman Khan spoke about the chapter's activities.
The committee members also released the book of Tohfa-E-Alam, a poetry collection written by Iftekhar Ahmad, who died on August 20 this year. He was the founder of Al Ahmad Foundation and father of the AMUAAQ president.
Dr Jilani recalled Sir Syed’s views on providing quality education to all. He urged all former students to come together to fulfill the AMUAAQ mission towards community and alma mater. He lauded Jawed for donating Rs1mn to vice-chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor on Independence Day to build a room of the guest house. AMUAAQ vice president Mohamed Faisal Naseem delivered a vote of thanks.
