The Doha Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organised its 7th International Conference on the theme ‘Resilience & Reinvention’ recently, on an innovative and creative technological platform.
The 2-day conference was attended by nearly 250 comprising of chapter members, sponsor representatives, students and delegates from many countries, with industry and corporate leaders and other esteemed personalities as speakers.


The chapter secretary Vignesh Kalyanaraman welcomed the gathering while chairperson Nirlep Bhatt introduced the theme of the conference.
He emphasised on how resilience and reinvention were crucial in the current time to achieve sustainability and growth, which every enterprise aspires to achieve. Bhatt also enumerated chapter’s past activities along with the topics for discussion during the conference.
Kuljeet Singh Arora, second secretary (Information, Culture & Education), Embassy of India in Qatar was the guest of honour. While appreciating the activities and initiatives of the chapter, Arora spoke about the rationale behind choosing this highly relevant theme.
NIhar Jambusaria, president, ICAI was the guest of honour. Jambusaria congratulated the chapter for organising the conference in an innovative and creative manner with high-profile speakers.
He further explained the rationale behind the theme and its relevance in current time to the economy, enterprises and individuals.
First technical session was conducted by M.P. Vijay Kumar, chairman (Accounting Standard Board) ICAI. In his topic on chief future officer (CFO), he advised finance leaders to have a futuristic approach and embrace technological evolutions to propel the organisation.
An interactive panel discussion on “Roadmap to Resurgence – Resilience & Reinvention” was moderated by KPMG partner and head of Audit Gopal Balasubramanium. The panellists were Kamlesh Vikamsey, past president, ICAI, Atul Kumar Gupta, immediate past president, ICAI and Waleed Tahtamouni, partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Dr Deepa Malik, president, Paralympic Committee of India and the country’s first woman to win a paralympic medal, inspired the audience with her speech on the topic “Impossible says I am Possible”. She explained how she went on to become iconic paralympic personnel despite all the challenges and bottlenecks.
She appealed everyone to develop the attitude of gratitude, be adaptive to change and live a purposeful life.
Dr Niranjan Hiranandani, co-founder and managing director of Hiranandani Corporation, spoke on how a chartered accountant can achieve excellence in life.
He emphasised on the continuous learning, re-skilling and chasing the dream to make an impact and touch other’s lives.
Sridhar Vembu, founder, Zoho Corporation conducted session on areas which cannot be measured still very significant for the leaders.
Parag Shah spoke on 'Ideapreneurship' – an avenue of value creation. In his address, he elaborated how creativity and critical thinking are important for the leaders.
The event concluded with the address of Rahul Bose, Bollywood actor, director, producer and a highly multi-talented personality who spoke on “Leadership lesson from Cinema”.
Bose elaborated his experiences from cinema and motivated the audience to keep the raising the bar, to propel personally and professionally.
Girish Jain was conferred with the coveted “CA Dilip Thakker Professional Achiever’s Award 2021” for exceptional leadership skills and remarkable success and community service.

The Doha Chapter of ICAI is established in the year 1981 and is the oldest among the 44 overseas chapters of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India.
Doha Chapter of ICAI is the first professional membership body to be registered with Qatar Financial Centre.
