Kannur United Welfare Association Qatar chapter ( Kuwaq), in association with Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), conducted Azadi Ka Amrith Mahotsav recently at ICC's Ashoka Hall commemorating 75 years of Indian independence.
The show was organised on the tag line Colours of India, showcasing the country's rich legacy of art through dance and film music.
Doha Bank Group CEO Dr R Seetharaman and his wife Sangeetha were the chief guests. Community leaders including Indian Community Benevolent Forum president Ziyad Usman, Indian Sports Centre president Dr Mohan Thomas, ICC president P N Baburajan, Lulu Group commercial manager Chacko and Kuwaq president Mohamed Noushad Aboo and general secretary Vinod Vallikol were present.
Eight prominent dance forms such as Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi, Oddissi, Mohiniyaattam, Kathak, Sathriya, Manipuri and Kathakali were performed at the event.
A music concert with Vinodh Nair as host featured songs by Doha-based singers.
The finale was a spectacular dance with the theme 'unity in diversity'.
The programme was directed by Ratheesh Mathradan with choreography by Athira Arunlal.
