The 7 a side Football tournament organised by the MES Alumni Association and held at the MES Indian School Grounds concluded recently with the finals and the closing ceremony. The tournament saw the participation of 16 teams consisting of close to 250 players over 32 matches.
In the finals match Ole FC emerged tournament champions by beating Spartans in an exciting final which ended with a score of 3 -2. Salman Khaleel was declared Man of the Match. This was his fourth Man of the Match during the tournament and he was also declared Most Valuable Player of the Season
In the Second Runners up match Zero Gravity emerged winners by defeating MES FC with a final score of 5-2. Abdul Rahman Mohammed from Spartans who scored nine goals during the tournament was awarded the Golden Boot and Sanjay Georoge who conceded no goals during the tournament won the Golden Glove. Al Raed FC was adjourned winners of the Fair Play Award.
The chief guest for the event was celebrated Qatari basketball player Yasseen Ismail Musa who had brought laurels for Qatar with 15 gold medals in various international events. He spoke on the importance of sports in Qatar and emphasised on the essential foundation of sports which is discipline, hard work and commitment.
The closing ceremony was also attended by Dr Mohan Thomas, president of Indian Sports Centre and Shanib Mohamed, head of IT – City Exchange. They applauded the tournament officials for conducting a successful fourth edition of the MES Sports Festival.
During the closing ceremony Nihad Ali – tournament chief introduced the various functional heads and applauded their contributions.
Muktsit Thangal, joint secretary of sports announced the Sports Festival calendar and declared the next event to be the MESF Cricket Tournament starting from December 1, 2021.

MES Indian School principal Hameeda Kader was also honoured during the event for completing 30 years of service and she recalled her fond memories of her tenure in her speech.

Shaheen Shafi, president, MES Alumni added that the main aim of the MES Alumni Sports Festival (MESF) is to strengthen connections with the graduates of MES Indian School through sports.
MESF also encourages sports as a sustainable lifestyle and fosters a stronger sports community in the country.
