The sale of local agricultural products began at four yards - Al Wakra, Al Khor-Al Thakhira, Al Shamal and Al Sheehaniya - on Thursday morning.
Work will continue there thrice every week (Thursday to Saturday) from 7am until 3pm.
The launch of sales at the Al Wakra yard was attended by Yousef Khaled al-Khulaifi, director of the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality (MME), and Ahmed Salem al-Yafei, head of Agricultural Guidance and Services at the department.
Al-Yafei said 29 farms are displaying their local vegetable produce at the Al Wakra yard, where large quantities of different types of vegetables are available, such as cucumber, zucchini and eggplant. Onions and other vegetables are also available.
Noting that this is a strong start to the season of yard sales, he said the first day witnessed a remarkable turnout of the public at the Al Wakra yard.
The official said the opening of the Al Mazrouah yard will take place on November 18 at its new location in Umm Salal Central Market, offering a larger area than its previous location.
