Qatar delegation attends Global Education Meeting in Paris

The Global Education Meeting (GEM), which was inaugurated by French President Emmanuel Macron, concluded in Paris on Sunday.HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi headed Qatar's delegation to the meeting.In her speech at the meeting, HE al-Nuaimi reviewed Qatar's most prominent achievements in education, stressing that the State has made remarkable progress in accelerating Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4 progress, by formulating the second strategy for the education and training sector (2018-2022) and the plan of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in line with the SDG4 new general framework for education, for the remaining 10 years of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.She said that in policy advancement, the general framework of the curricula has been developed, so that sustainable development has become one of the essential elements, including the development of evaluation policies, registration, admission, and curricula standards.In the field of learning environments, she referred to the development of the school environment to be safe, inclusive and healthy, as well as the strengthening of curricular and extra-curricular educational programmes in awareness of the SDGs in various areas of life.Regarding capacity building for teachers, she referred to the programmes and training courses for teachers on professional licences, the teaching profession, and scientific subjects and their connection to contemporary issues and development goals.About 6,000 teachers have benefited from 71 training programmes in the last academic year, she pointed out.Concerning youth empowerment, the minister referred to the establishment of a youth forum that deals with important issues of interest to groups while organising scientific, economic, and social programmes to develop the capabilities of youth and students in these areas.In the area of accelerating procedures at the national level, the state has taken several measures to enhance environmental protection community programmes to increase green spaces, preserve plant and animal wildlife, recycle waste, and work among young people to enhance the need to preserve the environment, she explained.Al-Nuaimi affirmed that Qatar's wise leadership firmly believes that education for sustainable development is education for a bright future, for everyone at every time and place, helping in successful transition towards societies in which the spirit of tolerance and peace prevails, and the spirit of national identity and global human citizenship is strengthened in their hearts.GEM focused on stimulating global political commitments to further highlight the importance of education, stressing the need for investments in educational sectors as a key driver for recovering from the Covid-19 effects and accelerating the 2030 SDGs to transform for a better future of education.Qatar also participated in the 10th consultative meeting of the Ministers of Education of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf states, which was held in Paris. HE al-Nuaimi headed Qatar's delegation at the meeting.Meanwhile, al-Nuaimi met separately with Libyan Minister of Education Dr Musa Mohamed al-Maqrif and Lebanese Education Minister Dr Abbas al-Halabi.During the two meetings, they reviewed ways to exchange experiences and best practices in education.
