The National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking at the Ministry of Labour signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), with the aim of establishing and managing shelters for migrant workers and victims of human trafficking, providing humanitarian aid, and enhancing cooperation and coordination.Under the memorandum of understanding, signed by HE Minister of Labour Dr. Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri, and HE President of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), Sheikh Abdullah bin Thamer Al-Thani ,the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking will provide social protection for workers in the State of Qatar who have no refuge, through protection, care, prevention, empowerment and awareness programs based on a rights-based approach, in a manner that guarantees transparency and justice, in partnership and coordination with ministries, government institutions, and civil society organizations the private sector and international organizationsFor its part, the Qatar Red Crescent, as a voluntary civil society, will work under the memorandum of understanding to alleviate the suffering of victims of human trafficking, without any discrimination in treatment and to contribute to social and humanitarian services, in line with its mission, and within the framework of its community and development programs and projects in the State of Qatar.Regarding the areas of joint cooperation, the two parties will, under the memorandum of understanding, re-run the humanitarian care home project designated for the department of humanitarian affairs for workers, which is concerned with providing the required assistance and protection to victims of human trafficking, and working on their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. In addition to sheltering expatriate workers who are stranded in their care, until their departure from the country is secured.The two parties will also work on developing and activating channels of joint cooperation between them, with the aim of managing and supervising humanitarian centers to house workers in the State of Qatar, in accordance with the standards set by international and regional organizations specialized in this regard, through coordination between the two parties, each according to its competence. As well as working to re-operate and manage shelters within the international standards approved by the International Federation of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross, and to provide humanitarian aid and health and food awareness for stranded migrant workers and victims of human trafficking and to improve conditions and environment conducive to a decent life.The signing of the aforementioned memorandum of understanding comes within the framework of the Ministry of Labor's keenness to partner and coordinate with various authorities in the State of Qatar, to provide social protection for expatriate workers in the country and victims of human trafficking, and to carry out tasks, works and activities, in accordance with the rules and procedures in force in the Ministry.
