The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has started works of the QR612mn Roads and Infrastructure Development Project in Abu Sidra and Fereej Al Manaseer areas.
The project, according to an official statement, aims to develop roads and internal streets in the area with added traffic safety, besides improving infrastructure facilities on par with the requirements of the population growth and anticipated urban development.
Engineer Fahad Mohamed al-Otaibi, head of Western Area Projects at Ashghal's Roads Projects Department, stated that upon completion, the project will serve 817 citizens’ plots in Abu Sidra and Fereej Al Manaseer areas. “It will provide advanced infrastructure services such as sewage networks, roads, internal streets, and pedestrian paths that will enhance the flow of traffic besides providing connectivity with public utilities. It includes construction of a service road along Al Furousiya Street from Al Manaseer Intersection to Industrial Area Bridge to serve the existing shops in the area,” he said.
He explained that the project will develop a 40km long road network along with the provision of traffic safety elements such as street lighting systems and poles, directional signs and road signage, 5,972 parking lots and 65km of shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists.
Infrastructure works within the project include 11.8km of sewage network, 29.5km of surface and groundwater drainage network and 24.4km of treated water network and 5.6km potable water network. These are in addition to extension of new drainage pipes linking to the main drainage network.
The project is located west of Al Furousiya Street in Al Rayyan Zone and east of Tuwar Al Heraithi Street. It also borders Salah El Din Street to the South and Al Sailiya Road to the North. The work is divided into three geographical areas to be worked in phases, and the implementation of each phase takes one year, as it is planned that the complete delivery of this project will be during the fourth quarter of 2024.
Al Jaber Engineering Company is implementing the major project, a part of the Areas Infrastructure Development Programme of Ashghal covering several development projects across Qatar.
