The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has held a forum titled ‘Digitising Value: How to Leverage Digital Transformation to Drive More Value for your SMB’ within a series of fora MCIT organises in the context of its ‘Digital Transformation for SMEs’.
Held in collaboration with PwC Middle East, the virtual forum aims at empowering and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to understand the latest technologies, as well as raising their awareness of how to benefit from such technologies in their businesses in such a way that saves time, effort and cost, in addition to providing new development opportunities and creative sources for entrepreneurship ecosystem.
“Such forums come in the context of ministry’s plans for the development and sustainability of the ICT sector in Qatar on all fronts, as well as advancing the digital agenda in all industries to support the country’s vision for creating a knowledge-based economy for current and coming generations,” said MCIT Assistant Undersecretary, Digital Society Development, Reem Mohamed al-Mansoori.
“This could happen by providing a creative, sustainable digital society and through programmes that encourage the use of information technology in small and medium enterprises and business sector,” she added.
The availability of digital infrastructure in Qatar, the large-scale use of the Internet, and consumers’ reliance on technology, such as social media and smartphones are all factors that help SMEs to access the digital world and benefit from it to enhance their potential, productivity, profitability, and creativity, al-Mansoori noted.
Firas Sleiman, partner, Technology at PwC in Qatar, said: “On a global scale, cloud solutions are advancing the adoption of digital technologies and enabling new revenue streams, quick time-to-market, and many differentiated benefits around data, analytics, artificial intelligence, resilience, security, and automation.”
He added: “Organisations in Qatar have the opportunity to quickly embrace the benefits offered by cloud-based solutions. It is important to recognise the role Qatar plays in the rapidly-evolving technology landscape.
“With both Microsoft and Google investing in the cloud space in the country and with Qatar’s positioning as a regional hub for research, innovation, education, healthcare, and technology, we expect to see accelerating uptake of cloud-based solutions by both public and private sector entities within the next few years.”
The forum’s three sessions discussed accelerating the SMEs’ use of cloud computing, the role of advanced technology in empowering future workforce, and success factors and business models that SMEs can follow to face a variety of challenges with a special focus on the importance of digital transformation as a strategic option pursuing success and distinction.
