HE the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Sultan bin Rashid al-Khater, affirmed the State of Qatar's firm commitment to the principles and agreements of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), and its support for the efforts of member states in order to preserve the organisation's vital role in consolidating the principles of international trade.
HE the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, during his meeting with the Director-General of the WTO Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, praised the role played by the organisation in supporting the international trading system.
During the meeting, which came on the sidelines of the official visit of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to international organisations concerned with trade and intellectual property in Geneva, the two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral co-operation and support the ongoing negotiations within the framework of the organisation to meet the challenges witnessed by the multilateral trading system at the global level.
The Undersecretary also met with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Daren Tang, and reviewed with him co-operation relations and ways to enhance partnerships with the organisation.
The Undersecretary stressed, on this occasion, the State of Qatar's commitment to the principles and conventions of the World Intellectual Property Organisation, noting that Qatar seeks to join a number of additional conventions of the Organisation, and actively participates in many aspects related to the WIPO negotiations, and supports all efforts made to reach an international agreement on strengthening the protection of broadcasting organisations from piracy.
