Qatar University hosted the first meeting of the Interprofessional Education Network for Arabic Speaking countries, which is an emerging network part of the Global Confederation for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice, Interprofessional Global.
The meeting was attended by 31 faculty members and professionals involved in interprofessional education (IPE) and collaborative practice from 10 countries in the region.
The event, which was held via videoconferencing, discussed issues related to the establishment of the network in the region, and its role and importance, for academic, research and clinical co-operation between universities and institutions in the Middle East in particular, in addition to reviewing the experiences of regional networks from different parts of the world.
Professor Asma al-Thani, Vice-President of Medical and Health Science, emphasised that "Developing a Middle Eastern Interprofessional Education Network will reinforce the healthcare learning process in the Arab region as a part of Interprofessional Global. It is a great opportunity for academic, research and clinical co-operation among universities and institutions in the Middle East."
The Chairperson of Global Confederation, Dr Johanna Dalberg, provided an overview about Interprofessional Global's vision and mission to serve as agents of change, providing global leadership in advocating for, collaborating on, promoting, developing, and researching IPE and collaborative practice innovation.
The meeting concluded with suggestions and comments from all participants on moving forward with the establishment of the Middle Eastern Interprofessional Education and Collaboration Network. (QNA)
