At the beginning of the session, the Council praised the high level of organisation and the success of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, hosted by Qatar for the first time.
The Council considered this tournament an ideal opportunity to improve the preparations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, noting that this achievement was the culmination of sound planning, national will and comprehensive strategic vision that were laid down by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
The Shura Council then discussed a draft law on the temporary expropriation and seizure of real estate for the public benefit.
After extensive discussions of its provisions, it decided to refer it to the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee and the Services and Public Utilities Committee of the Council.
HE Deputy Speaker of Shura Council Dr Hamda bint Hassan al-Sulaiti informed members of the council with regard to her participation in the fourth conference of the League of "Parliamentarians for Al-Quds," which was held in the Turkish capital, Ankara under the title 'Al Quds is Our Red Line.'
The council also reviewed a report on its participation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) which took place from
Nov 18-20 in the Italian capital of Rome.
In this regard, the Council praised the participation, saying it highlights the Shura Council's interest in the nation's issues, and contributes to enhancing co-operation between the Council and its counterparts from regional and international councils and parliaments, in order to benefit from the expertise and to enhance the international standing of the Shura Council.
The Council then addressed the issue of preserving Islamic and societal values, based on a request for general discussion submitted by a number of members.
The Council stressed the importance of preserving noble principles and morals, and strengthening the role of religion and tolerant beliefs in society.
The Council also noted the importance of adhering to the values and principles of the Islamic religion, through the consolidation of those values in society, highlighting the need to take the necessary measures against those who violate these trends without complacency or negligence. The Council highlighted the pivotal role of the family and the need to preserve it from the causes of disintegration and neglect.
During the discussions, members of the Council indicated the need to pay attention to that issue due to the impact it could have on society, stressing at the same time the importance of strengthening the religious and moral determination of the younger generations, by preserving the Islamic identity and rejecting what contradicts it, and not allowing any foreign customs, behaviours or values to invade the conservative Qatari society.
