Uruguay “highly welcomes” Qatari investments in all sectors, according to Uruguay’s President, Dr Luis A Lacalle Pou, who called on Qatari businessmen to invest in his country.
Pou made the call during a meeting on Sunday with Qatari businessmen held in the presence of Qatar Chamber first vice-chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari and Qatar Chamber board member Abdulrahman al-Ansari, alongside several board members and businessmen.
The meeting was also attended by Uruguay's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francisco Bustillo Bonasso; ambassador of Uruguay to Qatar, Dr Jorge A Sere Sturzenegger; and several other Uruguayan officials.
Pou said Uruguay offers many investment incentives to Qataris willing to invest in his country, assuring that Uruguay is interested to strengthen trading cooperation with Qatar and that there are enormous potentials and a strong desire from both parties to forge long-term commercial partnerships.
He said Uruguay and Qatar enjoy a common interest in boosting the food security sector, affirming that there are substantial opportunities for cooperation in this sector, considering that Uruguay owns developed infrastructure and ports, in addition to advanced technologies in the field of food production.
Al-Kuwari said he hopes the meeting would establish a new phase of cooperation between the two countries in the economic and commercial fields, noting that there is still room to improve trade exchange between both countries. He underscored the importance of exchanging mutual visits and trade delegations, as well as information between both sides to develop their trade volume.
Al-Kuwari called on Qatari companies and their counterparts from Uruguay to open new channels of economic co-operation and explore investment opportunities in various sectors, and to forge joint investment enterprises and commercial alliances, citing the “enormous potential” in both countries, which boast of attractive investment climates.
Elaborating on the competitiveness of the Qatari market, al-Kuwari said Qatar offers a wide range of investment opportunities for Uruguayan investors. There are many sectors for cooperation, such as retail, agriculture, food security, trading, sports, tourism, services, and infrastructure, among others, he said.
Al-Ansari also invited Qatari businessmen to explore the opportunities presented by the Uruguayan delegation, citing the numerous fields for cooperation, such as the food sector.
