His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani will chair the delegation of Qatar participating in the meeting of the 42nd session of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), set to take place Tuesday in Riyadh, in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Qatar News Agency said.
At the summit , Gulf leaders are expected to discuss ways to keep a united front and consolidating ties that bind them together as an integrated bloc of nations. Among the major topics will be security, economy and politics.
Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, Kuwait's Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah and Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al-Said, Deputy Prime Minister of Oman will lead their respective delegations to the summit.
Oman has affirmed that it would continue to support the GCC march and enhance all endeavours to serve Arab and Islamic issues. It also vowed to consolidate ties of cooperation and understanding with friendly countries.
It will be the first time Gulf authorities will meet after signing the historic Al Ula agreement in January in which a deal to end the GCC crisis that lasted for three and a half years was reached.
On Sunday, the GCC foreign ministers held in Riyadh the 150th preparatory session , chaired by Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the current session, with the participation of the GCC Secretary-General Dr Nayef Falah Mubarak al-Hajraf, the Saudi Press Agency said.
The GCC secretary-general said the foreign ministers expressed their confidence that the session will be a continuation of the previous summits towards more prosperity and progress, and look forward to strengthening the process of cooperation in all fields, and meet the aspirations of the GCC citizens, especially as the GCC enters the fifth decade of its march towards achieving security and prosperity for its countries and peoples under the wise guidance and visions of the GCC leaders.
According the UAE's WAM news agency, the foreign ministers also held a meeting with Sameh Shoukri, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss several topics of mutual concern and ways of boosting their coordination and cooperation in various areas.
