Qatar Charity (QC) supports university education for poor students and orphans, whether through sponsorships or educational projects and facilities, in Somalia, the Gaza Strip, and Bosnia.
The number of QC-sponsored students have reached 4,032 during 2021, and 2,783 teachers in needy areas, it was explained in a statement on Tuesday.
Somalia is a qualitative model for the QC in the field of student sponsorship.
The number of sponsored students since the establishment of the QC office in Mogadishu has reached 2,891, with 1,800 having graduated from Mogadishu University so far.
Mogadishu University president Dr Ibrahim Mohamed Morsal has praised the important role of the QC.
The students sponsored by the QC work in public and private institutions, and with international and local organisations working in Somalia.
The QC has implemented several projects to "liberate graduate certificates" in the past seven years, benefiting more than 3,330 students from the Gaza Strip at five local universities, with a total value of more than QR10mn.
Hala al-Batsh, a graduate from the northern Gaza Strip, says that she was unable to obtain her university degrees due to her inability to pay dues.
In Bosnia, the QC has established housing for orphans studying in university in Sarajevo, in addition to girls from low-income families coming from the countryside.
Vahira Delalic, from Travnik in central Bosnia, said the opportunity to be accepted into the female student housing provided by the QC played a major role in alleviating the financial burden on the family.
Another student, Felicity Kipor, said: "I am forever grateful to Qatar Charity for providing us with housing, food, and care, which made me feel happy and comfortable.”
