The Armed Forces celebrated the arrival of the "Doha" training vessel, coming from Istanbul, Turkey, under the patronage and in the presence of HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah and HE the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General (Pilot) Salem bin Hamad al-Nabit.
The vessel sailed from Turkey on Nov 14, and was greeted upon arrival at Hamad Port by the Commander of Mohamed Bin Ghanem Al Ghanem Maritime Academy, Brig Gen Khalid Nasser al-Hajri.
The ceremony began with recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an and a welcoming speech by the academy commander, followed by an inspection tour of the vessel by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs.
The vessel was inaugurated in August last year in the presence of HE Dr al-Attiyah, based on the contract signed at Dimdex-2018 with Anadolu Shipyard, one of the Turkish defence industry companies.
"Doha" vessel is considered one of the largest training vessels in the world, and will constitute an important tributary for the practical training of the candidate students at Mohamed Bin Ghanem Al Ghanem Maritime Academy, through the high training capabilities and techniques provided by the vessel.
The reception ceremony was attended by a number of senior officers of the Armed Forces. (QNA)
