On the occasion of International Volunteers' Day, youth forum Focus Qatar honoured leading voluntary organisations in the social, cultural, health, education and sports sectors.
Indian Community Benevolent Forum president Ziyad Usman inaugurated the event titled 'Inspiring Heroes'. Dr Mohamed Nour, a consultant at the Ministry of Public Health and also the Community Engagement Team Lead, was the chief guest. He said the service work being done by the Indian community for expatriates is highly commendable. It is also noteworthy that during the Covid-19 period, Indian expatriates were more likely to be involved in outstanding charitable activities and service activities for the entire expat community. He added that the service mindset of overcoming the grievances of those in distress was more prevalent among Indians.The ceremony honoured organisations that have led outstanding service activities in Qatar over the past year. Warda Mamukoya (Wa’hab Foundation) for its well-planned activities to save surplus food. Lutfi and Sabith from United Nurses of India, T P Akbar and Mohamed Riyaz (Kerala Pharmacists Forum), Binoy (Indian Physiotherapy Forum), Dr Maktoum Aziz (Indian Doctors' Club), and Sijo Jose and Ijaz (Federation of Indian Nurses Qatar), were honoured on behalf of their respective organisations. Others who were honoured: Suhail, Nishad and Aashiq (Qatar Mallu Volunteers), for their outstanding sports and community service activities, bringing together many volunteers; Mehboob and Khalid (KMCC Al Ehsan Committee for Deceased) for their efforts to repatriate the bodies of those who died in Qatar; RJ Appunni (Radio Suno 91.7) for providing accurate guidance about the Covid-19 pandemic; Muneesh and Mohamed Kunhi (Cultural Forum Qatar) for excellence in organising sports competitions and Zameel Abdul Wahid and C T Siddique Vazhakkad (Chaliyar Doha) for spearheading a number of environmental activities and community services.Focus International Qatar Region CEO Haris P T, COO Amir Shaji, CFO Safirussalam and Focus Ladies deputy director Dr Farija Hussain presented the certificates. Abdul Latif Nallalam, president of Qatar Indian Islahi Center and Focus Qatar founder member Mashhood Thiruthiyad addressed the gathering. The event was chaired by HR manager Faiz Elayotan.
