The Ministry of Municipality should study the possibility of allocating a plot of land at Al Shamal Municipality to be used as an alternative to the old mobile barns, as is the case with Al Nakhsh Area, the Central Municipal Council (CMC) recommended. There should be close co-ordination between the Ministry of Municipality and General Passports Department at the Ministry of Interior to ease the process of recruiting adequate number of foreign workers to these barns. Further, a barns' complex should be created at each of the outskirts of the country as in the case with Al Otoriyah, Al Ghuwariyah and Al Jamailliya.During the recent regular bi-weekly session, the CMC issued a number of other recommendations directed to the Ministry of Municipality regarding raising public awareness on the harmful effects of poisonous plants on both humans and animals. The ministry should maintain co-ordination with the entities concerned to remove such plants from public gardens, parks, barns and other key places, it was suggested. The CMC also recommended increasing the areas planted with local varieties of trees. The council hosted officials from the Food Security Department to review the National Food Security Strategy. Department director Dr Masoud Jarallah al-Marri pointed out that though it comes under the Ministry of Municipality, many entities in the country are stakeholders in implementing the strategy. The aim is to provide safe and high quality food at reasonable prices without wasting natural resources. He said the strategy is being effectively and successfully implemented in all respects.
