FC Bidda emerged champions in the one-day Football Penalty Shootout Tournament organised by Diaspora of Malappuram, Qatar, as part of a sport campaign titled, DoM Qatar Kick-off 2022.
More than 36 teams from the Indian community participated in the event at Al Jazeera Academy recently.
Roiters FC and Mates Qatar were the first and second runners-up, respectively. Sayyidul Aman of FC Bidda was selected as the best goalkeeper. The tournament was inaugurated by Sharaf P Hameed, CEO of City Exchange and former vice-president of the Indian Sports Centre. DoM Qatar general secretary Abdul Asees Chevidikunnan welcomed the gathering. President V C Mashhood presided and Keshavdas Nilambur proposed a vote of thanks.
The winners were presented with trophies by Dr Khalid al-Fakru, Indian Cultural Centre president P N Baburajan and Women's Wing convener Shamla Jaffer. Dr al-Fakru said the Indian community's involvement in the recent FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 and support to the FIFA 2022 World Cup Qatar are exemplary and commendable. Indian Doctors Club president Dr Biju Gafoor and Dr Vipin Maypayur addressed the closing ceremony.
