Al Watan Theatre Company is preparing to launch its own theatre, as part of the efforts of the Ministry of Culture to support and enrich the theatrical movement, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.
Nasser al-Hammadi, chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Watan Theatre Company, explained that the idea dates back to 2016 and the aim was to hold the performances in a special place, instead of relying on Qatar National Theatre alone.
"We received support from Abdul Rahim al Seddiqi, director of the Center for Theatre Affairs, to implement this idea. The company’s headquarters is in the Hazm Al Markhiya area, a suitable location for a theatre, with a capacity of 110 spectators.
"The theatre has a traditional look, reflecting the Qatari heritage. The first and second rows have Al Sadu (woven) seats, and the rest of the rows are wooden chairs.
"The theatre will be opened soon, in co-ordination with the Ministry of Culture. The name of the troupe has not been decided yet, it will either be named after a pioneer of the Qatari theatre, or continue to bear the name of Al Watan theatre Company," al-Hammadi told the daily.
