Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has designated Al Wakra Paediatric Covid-19 Centre, located on Al Wakra Hospital campus, as a treatment facility for Covid-19 infected children who require hospital admission.
The decision to designate this centre as a Covid-19 treatment facility is a proactive measure been taken in light of the recent increase in the number of cases in Qatar and around the world to ensure that Covid-19 paediatric patients are given the very best medical care possible. This state-of-the-art facility will enable HMC to provide high quality care for young patients with Covid-19 in one location, a statement from HMC said. The centre provides 39 inpatient beds, including four intensive care beds and 22 observation beds for short stay patients. The centre has the ability to increase up to 140 inpatient beds if needed. The centre will be for only confirmed Covid-19 paediatric patients and offer two types of services: the first is to evaluate patients and then send them for home isolation, and the second service is for children who require medical observation and need to be admitted for a short stay or for long-term medical observation. Children with suspected Covid-19, displaying signs and symptoms, should visit one of HMC’s four Paediatric Emergency Centres - Al Sadd, Al Dayeen, Airport, Al Rayan or a primary health centre for a Covid-19 test.
