The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) celebrated Makar Sankranti this year in co-ordination with Andhra Kala Vedika and Gujarat Samaj.
A Rangoli Mela event was held on the occasion along with kite flying, which is the traditional way of celebrating the festival.
Makar Sankranti is an important pan-Indian solar festival, which is also known by various other names across the country such as Pongal, Lohri and Bihu, etc.
Indian ambassador Dr Deepak Mittal, his wife Dr Alpana Mittal and ICC co-ordinating officer Xavier Dhanraj joined the celebrations on the ICC premises and Ashoka Hall.
In association with Andhra Kala Vedika's new management team under the leadership of Venkappa Bhagavatula, a number of women drew colourful rangolis (patterns on the floor or a tabletop using different materials) in Ashoka Hall.
Gujarat Samaj president Devang Patel, along with their team and their families, joined the kite-flying activity on the ICC premises. In the presence of ICC president P N BabuRajan, the Rangoli Mela and kite flying were enjoyed by all participants.
