The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Agricultural Quarantine Offices of the Department of Agricultural Affairs, inspected a total of 4,839 consignments weighing 145819 tonnes of various types of imported agricultural consignments at all customs outlets in the country in January. These included vegetarian consignments and products.

20 consignments weighing 7.24 tonnes were destroyed over violation of the law of agricultural quarantine and for infestation with large quantities of stone or non-quarantine pests. It is noteworthy that the agricultural quarantine is the first line of defence to protect plants from agricultural pests, and it is a preventive measure that aims to protect the plant wealth in the country from the risk of pest infestation from outside. All plants, agricultural products and any other materials are subject to phytosanitary regulations and the procedures of plant quarantine.
