Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)s Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII) recently presented an on line workshop titled "Translating News and Views" to help participants develop the skills required to become effective translators and editors in the media sector.

The workshop led by Assistant Professor at CHSS Dr. Ashraf Abdel Fattah, discussed how to handle the translation and editing of complex journalistic texts in a busy news environment, including print or television media.

The workshop was divided into four parts, the first exploring the various types, genres, and modes of media texts. The second addressed the challenges commonly encountered by media translators and interpreters. The third and fourth provided the trainees with an opportunity to reflect on the main theoretical issues as they analyzed media translations and interpreting.

Through TII, the college offers a full program of high-level training workshops, language programs, as well as quality professional translation and interpreting services. CHSS currently offers an interdisciplinary Masters (MA) in Translation Studies and an MA in Audiovisual Translation, both delivered by TII and internationally validated by the University of Geneva in Switzerland.

The college is launching its third MA in Intercultural Communication in the academic year 2022-2021. Interested students should visit chss.hbku.edu.qa.

The deadline to apply to HBKUs wide-ranging programs is March 15, 2022.
